The first post in a new blog... What do you write?? What do you not write?? Well I am not going to worry about any of that in this post. I am just going to concentrate on why I started this blog and who it is geared towards.
As my profile says, I started doing fiber arts when I became a part of the organizing and production of a local fiber arts event in my area. Many of you know which one that was. Recently I have had to step back due to some health issues and I needed something that I could take my time up with that would not require a whole lot of time or energy, and would also be a part of the enjoyment I get from doing fiber arts. Thus this blog.
My fiber arts are a little different from your day to day knitting or crocheting. They are still considered a form of knitting and fiber arts but each one requires a gadget of some sort to do. Currently I use a Innovations Circular Knitting Machine, Knitting Boards by Kb or Authentic Knitting Board and also I use Knifty Knitters. In future post I will try and highlight these items, what I have used them to make and also how to use them. Every once in a while I will throw a little bit of history into the mix just so you can know where the items originated from and know their history.
One of my favorite quotes about history is,
"How can we know where we are going without knowing where we have been."
Currently I am working on the same project I have worked on for about the past 8 months. I will be finishing it sometime this week.
It is being worked on a 10 inch Authentic Kitting Board and I am using Austermann's Bambou Soft. It is a mixture of Merino and bamboo. Unfortunately I only have three skeins of this yarn and they do not make it any more. I am doing this in a simple stockinette stitch. I believe that this will most likely end up being a mobius type scarf.
As most fiber artists knows you can not have just one project going at one time. I have also been working on many scarves for a local charity that gives scarves and hats to those who do not have them. I do most of these items on the Innovations Circular Knitting Machine. More about that in the coming posts.
Among my arsenal of knitting boards I have 2 Tadpoles (6"), 2 -10 inch boards, a 18", 28" and 38" knitting board. I have projects in planning for each one but have not been able to find the time to do so before now. Hopefully I will be able to get those projects started and share them with you here in the future.
This is something new to me so bare with me as I work out the kinks and get familiar with it. I hope to hear from more of you soon.

Congratulations Chris! Great start to, what I'm sure will be, a great blog. I will put this in my favorites and be checking in. Kim (Gilli) Gilligan
ReplyDeleteHow do you like the innovations. I use the Martha stewart. have the authentic knitting board the long one and regular one. all the KK's. been wanting to get the innovations but some of the reviews aren't any good.. so I ask everyone that has one to let me know how they like it.. now its your turn...hugs Birgit
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you are mistaken or not. The Innovations is a Circular Knitting Machine. Does Martha have one out now also. I only know of the Innovations one and also the Addi Turbo one. Plus there are some toys out there that I have used also. All of these are Circular Knitting machines. I thought that Martha had only the Martha Stewart Crafts Lion Brand Yarn Knit & Weave Loom Kit. I also have that one but have not used it as of yet. The board in the photo is by Knitting Board. This is the one I use the most.
DeleteLooks like the beginnings of a great blog. I love the Knifty Knitters myself and I'm getting started on the Ultimate Sweater Machine. Whatever tool gets the job done, right?
Deleteyes I am talking about the Martha stewart loom and weaving kit.. I do know the addi and the innovations are circular knitting machines.. but am wanting to go beyond looms and was wondering about the innovations .. before I spend hundreds of dollars i try the cheaper kind....lol. as in KK before akb . anyhow just wondering if it does what it says .. ease of use..etc
ReplyDeleteI love my innovations machine and will have a hard time giving it up for an Addi. The only thing different that I see it does is it actually has a counter on it for counting rows. I can do without that for now until I have someone buy me an Addi or I find a really good deal on one. I just finished 4 hats this weekend and have made over 25 scarfs on my innovations. Seems to handle all the yarns pretty well. Bulky is not a good one for the machines. I only paid $39.99 for my Innovations, so it is a good one to learn on. As with any project you are going to have drop stitches and it does take a little practice to correct those but once you know how it is easy to do. I would recommend it to start with!!
Deleteoooh GREAT!!! Another fiber gadgeteer!! Have you ever seen Loom Knitters Circle e-zine? I am an editor there & we are always looking for people to share patterns and opinions! I am getting the new loom from Authentic Knitting Board to try out soon, I am stoked!! I am also going to look up this innovations machine.. I have been mulling over the Addi, but if that one works as well and is less$$ then that's even better!
